| Working and treatment of
Risedronate – Actonel |
Normally bone is continually formed and dissolved. Osteoporosis
slows down the rate at which the bone is dissolved. Risedronate
increases the amount of bone formation. Osteoporosis is a disease
that depletes the calcium in your bones and then your BMD drops,
your bones are more fragile and your chances of a fracture are
multiplied. The soul purpose of therapy for osteoporosis is to give
the patients a better BMD and to reduce the frequency of the
occurrence of fractures. Risedronate is the latest bisphosphonate
which has got its approval for the treatment and prevention of
osteoporosis.
A test of clinical studies using Risedronate in the treatment of
postmenopausal osteoporosis was done to find out its efficiency in
bringing down the fracture rates. Risedronate is thus a safe and
effective treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis. Actonel
significantly brings down the chances of vertebral and non-vertebral
fractures in ladies who have faced one or more fractures in the
past. Risedronate 5 mg prevents bone loss in early postmenopausal
women, is well tolerated, and represents an effective choice to
maintain bone mass and prevent osteoporosis.
In prospective tests, both Risedronate was effective in reducing
vertebral and hip fractures in women with postmenopausal
osteoporosis. In the only prospective trial evaluating hip fracture
risk reduction as the primary end point, Risedronate was effective
at reducing hip fracture. Risedronate is available in once-weekly
formulations that have efficacy and tolerability profiles similar to
the once-daily doses. This drug works by slowing bone loss; in many
people, an increase in bone density can be measured over five years
of treatment. Risedronate (Actonel) reduce the risk of hip and spine
fractures in patients with osteoporosis.
